2004-11-28 14:58

On the afternoon of December 4, 2003, President Hu Jintao met with visiting Slovenian Prime Minister Anton Rop at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu said that China and Slovenia had a traditional friendship. Bilateral relations have developed smoothly since the two countries established the diplomatic relationship 11 years ago. Friendly exchanges of visits by state leaders of the two countries further pushed the bilateral relations onto a healthy track. Positive achievements were registered on the cooperation in trade and economic field and beyond, while cooperation in international organizations was well conducted. Hu also noted that China highly valued and appreciated the Slovenian government's sticking to the One China policy and supporting China's reunification.

Hu stressed that both China and Slovenia were striving for developing themselves on the most suitable roads. China has begun its campaign of building a comprehensive well-off society while Slovenia is carrying out an economic strategy of stable development and a gradual reform. Hu said that this would provide good opportunities for the two countries to implement all-directional and substantial cooperation, and help the two countries learn and borrow from each other as different developing models. He noted that China was willing to, on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, make joint efforts with Slovenia to continuously tap up new fields for cooperation, enrich the contents of cooperation and further promote the bilateral relations.

Rop said that Slovenia would make more concrete efforts to strengthen coordination and mutual trust with China, expand and deepen reciprocal cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology, culture, medicine and sanitation. He described the development of Slovenia-China relations as with great potentials. He also reiterated that his country would continuously stick to the One China policy.
